Riordan continued in a statement, “We can’t say much more at this stage, but we are very excited about the idea of a live-action series of the highest quality, following the storyline of the original Percy Jackson five-book series, starting with The Lightning Thief in season one.”
As of October 28, 2011, the Percy Jackson book series has been on The New York Times Best Seller list for children’s book series for 245 weeks. The first film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, brought home over $220 million worldwide but divided critics and fans for its changes to the source material. The second film took home a little less than $200 million, and a third instalment was cancelled.
