Variety has revealed that Olivier Assayas (Clouds of Sils Maria, Personal Shopper) is set to write and direct Wasp Network, a spy thriller based upon Fernando Morais’ book The Last Soldiers of the Cold War.
Wasp Network tells the true story of “Cuban spies in American territory during the 1990s when anti-Castro groups based in Florida carried out military attacks on Cuba, and the Cuban government struck back with the Wasp Network to infiltrate those organizations.”
The acclaimed French filmmaker has received five Palme d’Or nominations at Cannes, most recently for the Kristen Stewart-headlined Personal Shopper, for which the festival also honoured him with the Best Director award. He is currently in pre-production on his next film Idol’s Eye, which will star Sylvester Stallone, Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson.
