Peter Jackson confirms he’ll have no involvement with The Lord of the Rings TV series

October 11, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Despite being announced last November, we’ve had little in the way of official details about Amazon’s plans for its The Lord of the Rings TV series, save for the fact that Star Trek 4 and Jungle Cruise screenwriters JD Payne and Patrick McKay are currently hard at work on developing the show.

Rumours have circulated that Amazon could be looking to set the series in the same version of Middle-earth brought to life by Peter Jackson in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. However, Jackson has previously dismissed reports linking him to the series, and he’s now reiterated to Comic Book that he won’t have any creative input into the project.

“I was a guy who didn’t get to see The Lord of the Rings like everybody else because I had to make it, so I’m looking forward to seeing somebody else’s take on the Tolkien world,” said Jackson.

The Lord of the Rings is set to explore “previously untold stories” from J.R.R. Tolkien’ world, and if rumours are to be believed, the first season of the show – which has a five season commitment and alleged $1 billion budget – will explore the early years of Aragorn.
