Unlike previous castings, there’s been no official word as to who Sarsgaard will be playing in the film, although rumours are circulating that he could have landed the role of District Attorney Harvey Dent, a.k.a. the supervillain Two-Face. The character has previously been portrayed on the big screen by Billy Dee Williams (Batman), Tommy Lee Jones (Batman Forever) and Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight).
Sarsgaard meanwhile does have previous DC experience, having portrayed the character of Hector Hammond in 2011’s Green Lantern movie.
Sarsgaard becomes the latest addition to a cast that includes Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse) as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano (Escape at Dannemora) as Edward Nygma/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Alfred Pennyworth, and John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone.
The Batman is set for release on June 25th 2021.
