With Peter Capaldi set to make his exit from Doctor Who in this year’s Christmas Special, the speculation as to who will be the next actor to take on the iconic role of the Time Lord is really heating up.
Although Death Valley star Kris Marshall was widely tipped to have already secured the role of the Thirteenth Doctor, we now have a new bookies’ favourite in Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, while Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum) and Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) have both entered the betting after an influx of bets pointing towards the first ever female Doctor.
“A female Doctor Who definitely looks to be in the making as women dominate the betting after a massive reshuffle off the back of Peter Capaldi filming his final scenes as the time lord,” said Aoife Heffron of BoyleSports. “When the news broke that Capaldi would be stepping down as Doctor Who, back in February, it looked as though Kris Marshall would replace him and was installed as the early favourite, but Phoebe Waller Bridge has taken over at the head of the betting and is seeing strong support from punters at 7/4.”
