After a minor delay and some back-and-forth negotiating, Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is officially setting sail for Australia. According to Queensland Senator George Brandis, Pirates 5, titled Dead Men Tell No Tales, will begin filming on location in Queensland and in the Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast in February 2015.
Disney will receive an additional $21.6 million in funding from the country’s leaders, which is Australia’s largest contribution to the funding of a major film. Dead Men Tell No Tales is also expected to bring in $100 million to Queensland and provide “thousands of local jobs,” making it the “biggest international feature film” shot there.
Directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales hits theaters on July 7, 2017. Johnny Depp will return as series star Captain Jack Sparrow, while Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds), Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), Geoffrey Rush, Keith Richards and even Orlando Bloom are rumored to join him.
