Kalypso Media and developer Gaming Minds Studios have today released their seafaring trade simulator, Port Royale 4, on the Nintendo Switch. This maritime jaunt around the 17th century Caribbean is the series’ debut appearance on any Nintendo platform and has been specifically designed to take advantage of the console’s features, including full touch-screen support.
Port Royale 4 provides players with the ultimate trade sim experience as they take the role of a young and ambitious governor in control of a budding colony in the Caribbean. It will be up to players to join one of the colonial powers of the time (England, Spain, France and the Netherlands) and grow their small settlement into a busy and prosperous trader city.
Players will be able to build up production chains that connect multiple islands within the 12 million square KM Caribbean playground and then create complex trade routes. For those players wanting a more action orientated experience, it will be possible to attack other nations’ vessels and settlements but will need to keep an eye out for pirates and other privateers who want a chest of easy gold.
Featuring:
- Four colonial powerhouses: England, France, Spain and the Netherlands, with each providing different benefits and unique gameplay styles.
- Four single player campaigns that follow each nation.
- Four different character classes: The Explorer, Merchant, Buccaneer and Pirate.
- Establish trade routes with 60 Caribbean cities set in a huge game world that covers a 12 million square kilometre region.
- Navigate cliffs, shallow waters and stormy weather regions.
- Produce goods such as rum, luxuries and more from 50 different buildings.
- Construct town buildings with neighbourhood effects.
- Set sail in 18 historically authentic ships from the late 16th and 17th centuries.
- Take part in tactical, turn-based naval battles against powerful captains.
- Grow a reputation with the chosen superpower to unlock licenses, building permits, new buildings and ships.
