Although the character was absent from the first trailer, producer James Cameron subsequently confirmed that Terminator: Dark Fate will continue the story of John Connor, and now some potential plot details have surfaced online which may explain how the future leader of the Resistance factors into the new sequel.
The plot rumours come by way of alleged test screenings, which reveal that the movie begins shortly after Terminator 2: Judgment Day, with Skynet having been defeated. However, a new threat called Legion rises and sends a Terminator back to kill John. Fast-forward to the present, and Natalia Reyes’ Dani Ramos – now mankind’s last hope – also becomes a target for Legion and the new Rev-9 Terminator (Diego Luna). Fortunately, the Resistance send back Mackenzie Davis’ Grace to protect her alongside Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor.
Now, none of this is confirmed at present, but it certainly sounds plausible, particularly after the rumours last year that young actor Jude Collie had been cast as a CGI stand-in for John alongside Brett Azar, a bodybuilder, stuntman and actor who served as the pre-CG body double for Arnold Schwarzenegger as the younger version of the T-800 in Terminator Genisys.

Along with the rumoured plot details, we’ve also got a TV spot, which is essentially a cut down version of the first trailer, albeit with a new scene at the end featuring Linda Hamilton delivering Arnie’s iconic ‘I’ll Be Back’ catchphrase; watch it here…
