We’ve been hearing drips and drabs from the Power Rangers reboot casting (see here, here, here and here), and some new details have come out from Collider about the title for the movie as well as the character names for our heroes.
The site is claiming that Saban are going to brand Power Rangers the same way Marvel and DC have branded their movies and TV shows (Marvel’s The Avengers, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, etc.) by titling the reboot Saban’s Power Rangers, and will likely have a modest budget of $35 million. When the film was first announced, the above image titled the film with the same name, so it looks like this one could be accurate.
As for character names, Collider are claiming our heroes are called:
Callum Oliver – The Red Ranger/Tyrannosaurus
Priya Patel – The Pink Ranger/Pterodactyl
Brian Olson – The Blue Ranger/Triceratops
Oscar Fernandez – The Black Ranger/Mastodon
Teyana Jones – The Yellow Ranger/Sabre-tooth Tiger
No official word on this one just yet, but it would seem weird to reboot the classic Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers franchise and then giving them all new names.
Power Rangers is set for release on January 13th 2017, with Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) directing from a script by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class) and features Dacre Montgomery (Bertrand the Terrible) as The Red Ranger, Ludi Lin (Marco Polo) as The Black Ranger, Naomi Scott (The Martian) as The Pink Ranger and RJ Cyler (Me, Earl and the Dying Girl) as The Blue Ranger.
