Cartoon Network has announced that the crime-fighting trio The Powerpuff Girls are set to return to TV screens for a brand new rebooted series beginning in 2016.
“The original Powerpuff Girls was a franchise phenomenon for Cartoon Network, paving the way for a new generation of innovative storytellers and enthusiastic fans worldwide,” said Cartoon Network’s Rob Sorcher at the 2014 Licensing Expo in Las Vegas yesterday. “We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X.”
Created by Craig McCracken, The Powerpuff Girls ran from 1998 to 2005, with Cartoon Network airing a 10th anniversary special in 2009, along with a 2014 TV movie which featured Ringo Starr.
