Pre-production halted on Mission: Impossible 6 due to contractual disputes

August 20, 2016 by Gary Collinson

According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures has halted early pre-production on M:I 6 Mission Impossible due to contractual disputes.

The site suggests two possible reasons for the dispute: that Paramount wants Cruise and the rest of the film’s producers from Bad Robot and Skydance to trim their fees, or that Cruise is looking to exceed his pay packet for The Mummy, while the studio wants to pay him what he received for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. However, it is expected that an agreement will be reached in time for the planned January start date.

The sixth instalment in the blockbuster franchise will reunite Cruise with Rogue Nation helmer Christopher McQuarrie and co-star Rebecca Ferguson, marking the first occasion in the series where the director and leading lady have returned for a second outing. As yet, there’s no word on a release date, but it is expected next year.
