After his huge success with Iron Man 3 last summer, writer/director Shane Black looks like he will be heading back to the jungle to help 20th Century Fox reboot the Predator franchise.
Black has been set to write a treatment for a new film before handing over full script duties to Fred Dekker, the man who helped Black write 1987’s cult classic, Monster Squad. Black is also set to take on directing duties as well. Original co-producer, John Davis, is producing the reboot, marking a reunion with Black who starred in the original as Hawkins.
The Predator was first unleashed in John McTiernan’s (Die Hard) 1987 original, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Terminator), before returning in 1990’s sequel, which featured Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon). Since then, Fox has rebranded the franchise a couple more times, pitting the Predator against Aliens in AVP: Aliens vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007), as well as a Robert Rodriguez-produced reboot Predators in 2010.
After many incarnations since he was involved with the original, is Shane Black the right man to give us another “true” Predator movie? Could we maybe see Schwarzenegger involved in another of his old franchises after Terminator: Genesis, The Legend of Conan and Triplets? Leave us your comments below….
