Jake Gyllenhaal delivered a hit for Apple TV+ with Presumed Innocent, and now there will be more as the streamer has ordered a second season of what was initially a limited series.
The renewal should come as no surprise, as it’s now become Apple TV+’s most-watched drama series. The second season could prove just as successful, as David E. Kelley, J.J. Abrams, and Season 1 star Jake Gyllenhaal will return as executive producers, and author Scott Turow will serve as co-executive producer.
Details on the second season are sparse, but it’s reported that it will “unfold around a suspenseful, brand new case.”
Per the official synopsis, the first season was based on The New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Scott Turow; the gripping series takes viewers on a journey through the horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office when chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich (played by Gyllenhaal) is suspected of the crime. The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.
Alongside Gyllenhaal in a leading role, the star-studded ensemble cast of the first season also includes Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Nana Mensah, Renate Reinsve, Peter Sarsgaard, Kingston Rumi Southwick and Elizabeth Marvel.
Presumed Innocent will air the final two episodes of its first season on July 17 and July 24.
