We all know him from his great work on Saturday Night Live, but it’s great seeing Bowen Yang having a bigger platform, and the same goes for the underrated Joel Kim Booster. Today, we got the pair in the first trailer for Fire Island, the new film from director Andrew Ahn. Front and center are Yang and comedian-turned-actor Booster, who showcase what it’s like for gay men during the pilgrimage that is going to Fire Island.
The new LGBTQ rom-com will also play as a modern spin on the iconic Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice. Joel Kim Booster penned the script and sees Jax Media (Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer) producing. The film will debut on Hulu this June for Pride Month. Check out the trailer below…
Andrew Ahn directs Fire Island. The film includes Joel Kim Booster, Bowen Yang, Margaret Cho, Conrad Ricamora, James Scully, Matt Rogers, Tomas Matos, Torian Miller, Nick Adams, Zane Phillips, Michael Graceffa, Peter Smith, and Bradley Gibson. RuPaul’s Drag Race royalty Peppermint also cameos in the film.
Set in the iconic Pines, Andrew Ahn’s FIRE ISLAND is an unapologetic, modern-day rom-com showcasing a diverse, multicultural examination of queerness and romance. Inspired by the timeless pursuits from Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice, the story centers around two best friends (Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang) who set out to have a legendary summer adventure with the help of cheap rosé and their cadre of eclectic friends.
Fire Island streams on Hulu this June 3rd.
