Production on The Flash movie pushed back due to Fantastic Beasts 3

October 18, 2018 by Gary Collinson

For a movie featuring the Fastest Man Alive, Warner Bros. and DC Films’ The Flash sure is taking its time getting to the screen.

The project was first announced as part of the initial DC Extended Universe slate back in 2014, the solo movie has gone through several directors (and several storylines) before Spider-Man: Homecoming screenwriters and Vacation helmers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein boarded the project this past January.

Although the duo had hinted that a 2020 release was on the cards, with production slated to begin early in the New Year, Variety is reporting that the timeline has been pushed back once again. Cameras are now expected to start rolling in late 2019, once leading man Ezra Miller finishes up his commitments to another Warner Bros. franchise release in Fantastic Beasts 3, which is set to shoot from July 2019.

Given the production delay, the trade is reporting that Warner Bros. is now eyeing a 2021 release date for the Scarlet Speedster’s first solo outing in the DCEU. That is of course assuming that Daley and Goldstein don’t go the way of previous directors Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa, both of whom left the project due to creative differences.

While plot details for The Flash are being kept under wraps, it’s thought that the film has reverted to a traditional solo movie, rather than the planned adaptation of the Flashpoint comic book storyline.
