Quantico renewed for third season with change in showrunner

May 16, 2017 by Ricky Church

Throughout the last couple weeks we’ve seen the fates for several television series decided as networks announced which shows are renewed and cancelled. And we can now add one more to the renewal list as ABC’s Quantico has been renewed for a 13-episode third season.

With the renewal, though, comes a change in showrunner: Josh Safran, Quantico‘s creator and executive producer, will be stepping down as showrunner for the upcoming season. He will, however, remain as a consultant for the series next year and ABC has begun a search to find a new showrunner.

Production on the new season is said to remain in New York, though there is apparently a chance the writer’s room will move to Los Angeles. ABC is waiting to find a new showrunner first before making a full decision on the move.

Quantico stars Priyanka Chopra as FBI agent Alex Parish. In the first season, she was framed for a terrorist attack and worked to clear her name while uncovering the true mastermind while the second season has dealt with discovering a conspiracy within the CIA. The series was initially a ratings hit when it first premiered, but steadily declined in its two seasons. The show has been a successful international hit for ABC, though, thanks to Chopra’s popularity in India and the rest of the world, a fact that contributed to Quantico‘s last minute renewal.
