American actor Lyle Waggoner, best known for his work on The Carol Burnett Show and Wonder Woman, has passed away aged 84 after battling an illness, it has been announced.
Waggoner began his career in the 1960s and screen tested for the role of Batman in the classic 1960s TV series, ultimately losing out to Adam West, before beginning a seven year run on the comedy and variety series The Carol Burnett Show from 1967.
In 1974, Waggoner left The Carol Burnett Show and the following year he was cast alongside Lynda Carter in the Wonder Woman TV series, where he portrayed Diana Prince’s love interest Steve Trevor (and subsequently Steve Trevor Jr.).
Following his Wonder Woman run, Waggoner would make guest appearances on a host of TV shows including the likes of Charlie’s Angels, Happy Days, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Murder, She Wrote, The Golden Girls and Ellen.
