Some sad news to report today as it has been announced that actor Ray Stevenson has passed away aged just 58 while shooting his latest movie Cassino in Ischia in Italy. A cause of death is yet to be revealed.
Born in North Ireland, Stevenson was a graduate of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and began his acting career in the 1990s, with roles in TV series such as Band of Gold and City Central. His first major film role came with 2004’s King Arthur, which he followed up with his role as Titus Pullo in HBO’s Rome.
In 2008, Stevenson took on the role of Frank Castle in the cult favourite Punisher: War Zone, and would return to Marvel to play Volstagg in Thor, Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. Other credits included The Three Musketeers, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the Divergent series, Accident Man and RRR., as well as the TV series Dexter, Black Sails, Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Vikings and Das Boot.
Stevenson’s final TV role will come in Disney’s live-action Star Wars: Ahsoka, which is set to premiere on Disney+ in August. He had also recently wrapped filming on the historical action film 1242: Gateway to the West, set to open in November
