Ron Lester – the actor best known for playing Billy Bob in the coming-of-age football film Varsity Blues – has passed away at the age of 45 due to liver and kidney failure, as reported by TMZ.
According to TMZ, he was taken off life support around 9pm central with his fiancee by his side.
The actor has been hospitalised in Dallas, Texas for the past fourth months due to his liver and kidney problems. The actor last reported on his health issues last November, after posting updates via his Twitter.
His portrayal of Billy Bob was the standout performance in Varsity Blues, bringing the lovable character to life to endearing effect. He would also appear in the teen comedy Not Another Teen Movie parodying the character in 2001.
The upcoming drama Bomb City will mark his last ever feature film appearance. It is scheduled for release next year.
