They’ve already struck gold in the dark-comedy stakes when starring in Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Lobster, and now Rachel Weisz and Colin Farrell are set to reteam for Todd Solondz’s take on the Oedipus story, Love Child.
The Hollywood Reporter reveal that Love Child will be presented to potential buyers at the forthcoming Cannes virtual market place and that it’s a “dark and hilarious twist on the classical Oedipus story, with a precocious kid who schemes to rid himself of his brutish dad so he can have his mom all to himself. But things go awry when a handsome stranger appears.”
Solondz, who’s perhaps most famous for Welcome to the Dollhouse and Happiness said of Love Child that “It’s fun and it’s sexy and it’s shaped by the Hollywood movies that made me want to become a filmmaker. I’ve loved Rachel and Colin’s work forever, and am so honored to be able to excite their passion for serious and unexpected work as well.”
Farrell can currently be seen in Neil Burger’s Voyagers (read our review here), and has a high-profile role as The Penguin in 2022’s reimagining of The Batman, while Weisz has her own pandemic delayed superhero blockbuster finally seeing the light of day when Black Widow is released on July 9th.
