If we weren’t already excited about climbing Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree with Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, and Nicola Coughlan, it has just been announced that Rebecca Ferguson is set to play the story’s terrifying headmistress, Dame Snap.
Neal Street Productions, Elysian Film Group and Ashland Hill Media Finance have rounded out their cast with the Dune and Mission: Impossible star.
Ferguson adds The Magic Faraway Tree to a busy schedule that includes season 2 of her Apple TV+ series Silo, the Peaky Blinders movie, Mercy opposite Chris Pratt, and Kathryn Bigelow’s eagerly anticipated untitled movie.
Adapted by BAFTA Award-winner Simon Farnaby (Paddington 2), and directed by Ben Gregor (Black Ops), the film also stars Jessica Gunning and Jennifer Saunders.
The Magic Faraway Tree will be the first feature-film adaptation of Blyton’s book series, which was written between 1939 and 1951 and is comprised of four novels: The Enchanted Wood, The Magic Faraway Tree, The Folk of the Faraway Tree and Up the Faraway Tree. With the potential for a franchise, all four books have been optioned by Neal Street Productions.
