The much anticipated Peaky Blinders film has added its first new name to its cast. According to Deadline, Rebecca Ferguson (Dune Part Two) will star alongside series lead Cillian Murphy in the feature film.
Peaky Blinders is based on the real Peaky Blinders gang run by the Shelby crime family in Birmingham. The series follows Murphy’s Thomas Shelby, the leader of the Shelby clan, in the aftermath of World War I and his rise through both the criminal and political ranks. The series premiered in 2013 and ran for six seasons, ending in 2022.
There are no details on who Ferguson will play or what the film’s story will be, or if any of the original cast will return with Murphy, but series creator Steven Knight has spoken before about how the film would take place during World War II.
“I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war,” Knight said when the film was officially announced.
Peaky Blinders will be written by Knight with Tom Harper directing. Knight will produce with Murphy, Caryn Mandabach and Guy Heeley while Harper will executive produce alongside David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren and David Mason.
Production on the Peaky Blinders film will begin later this year.
