Dynamite Entertainment’s 2020 crossover series Mars Attacks Red Sonja is set for a sequel this coming March as writer Jay Stephens and returning artist Fran Strukan team for Red Sonja Attacks Mars.
“I’m having such a blast,” states Stephens. “It feels like you could see me drooling over my Norman Saunders (the original Mars Attacks! card creator) art book, which I do more often than would be considered sane Campy, horrifying, mid-century, and notorious does seem to be my vibe. I’m always striving for that reimagined nostalgia… a sort of irreverent reverence for the things that haunted me as a kid.”
Described as a “retro science fiction, sword and sorcery action, and dark comedy [with a] special Neapolitan twist”, the series will see “Sonja serving out a life-debt when she discovers a sinister prophecy of cosmic foulness from beyond the stars. To stop the imminent destruction of the whole world and her beloved Hyrkania, she must trek from the deserts in the south all the way to the northern shores of the Vilayet Sea. There she will go toe to toe with the big-headed insidious invaders back once more from Mars. Along the way she will face trials too, serpent-men, metamorlocks, and ancient monster-gods in her path.
