The Handmaid’s Tale helmer Reed Morano is in talks to direct Jennifer Lopez as the infamous drug lord Griselda Blanco in STX Films’ The Godmother.
The film will tell the true story of Blanco, a fearsome female cartel boss known as ‘La Madrina’, who climbed to the top of the Colombian drug trade before serving almost two decades in prison on murder and racketeering charges. She was shot and killed in 2012, aged 69.
Lopez has been attached to the project since it was originally set up at HBO back in 2016 under the title The Cocaine Godmother, and even considered making her directorial debut on the film for a time last year.
Along with Morano, it’s also been reported that Oscar-winning screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed) is in talks for a rewrite of the script originally written by Terence Winter (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Regina Corrado (Deadwood).
