Based on the novel of the same name by Amanda Brown, the first Legally Blonde was released in 2001 and saw Witherspoon playing Elle Woods, a sorority queen who follows her ex-boyfriend to law school where she learns that there is more to her than just her looks. The movie was a hit at the box office, grossing over $140 million worldwide, and spawned the 2003 sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, as well as a direct-to-video spinoff Legally Blondes and a hit Broadway musical.
Legally Blonde 3 has been confirmed for release on Valentine’s Day 2020. A director is expected to be announced soon.
