THR is reporting that Richard Linklater and Robert Downey Jr. are teaming up for an as-yet-untitled con man tale based upon the ‘Man of the People’ episode of Gimlet Media’s Reply All podcast.
The project will tell the story of two doctors, “Dr. John Brinkley, who scammed his way to fame and fortune using fake medicine, populism and radio, and Dr. Morris Fishbein, the editor of the journal of the America Medical Association who goes on a decade-long quest to take Brinkley down.”
Linklater’s next film Last Flag Flying is expected to arrive later this year, while he is also attached to an adaptation of Maria Semple’s 2012 bestseller Where’d You Go, Bernadette?. Downey meanwhile is currently shooting next year’s Avengers: Infinity War, and will be seen reprising his role as Tony Stark this July in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
