News broke this week that Pauly Shore was tackling the iconic fitness guru Richard Simmons in a new biopic, and there were plenty of reactions on the internet.
Some were shocked, many were intrigued, but one person wasn’t happy about it, and it’s the reclusive Simmons himself.
The eccentric fitness guru rose to fame throughout the 80s and 90s, becoming a household name and a pop culture icon. But in 2014, Simmons disappeared from public life and lived an extremely private life, some would call a strange and mysterious reclusive life.
That doesn’t mean Simmons is unaware of what’s happening, as Simmons took to social media to blast the Pauly Shore-led project. Simmons posts on Facebook:
“Hi Everybody! You may have heard they may be doing a movie about me with Pauly Shore. I have never given my permission for this movie. So don’t believe everything you read. I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have a publicist. I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful. Thank you for all your love and support.”
The studio is reportedly looking at “serious discussions with a major writer” and will aim for the “dramatic and heartfelt” tone of Little Miss Sunshine.
A test run for the project will be the upcoming short film called The Court Jester, also starring Shore as Simmons, which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Check out that trailer below…
