These days, Possession seems to be all the rage. Not only was the 80s cult classic horror film homaged in this year’s The First Omen, but now The Hollywood Reporter reports that a remake is heading our way.
In the story from THR, it’s reported that Smile filmmaker Parker Finn will tackle this project, with Pattinson producing via his production company.
Pattinson could star in the film, but the trade notes “acting involvement will be clarified down the road as the script and schedules develop.”
The original 1981 Possession was co-written and directed by Polish filmmaker Andrzej Żuławski. The film follows the twisted relationship between an international spy (Sam Neill) and his wife (Isabelle Adjani), who begins exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior after asking for a divorce.
The film features one of the most disturbing scenes involving Isabelle Adjani. It would receive mixed reviews at the time of release but would receive a cult following in later years. It was even included in Sight & Sound’s The Greatest Films of All Time list.
