DC FanDome brought viewers the latest look at The Batman, the new Matt Reeves-directed Batman reboot starring Robert Pattinson. It also brought on some interesting tidbits about the production of the new DC film.
Filmmaker Matt Reeves was joined by actors Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz for a behind-the-scenes conversation about the upcoming Batman movie. The panel saw the filmmakers tease some forthcoming events and offer cool facts.
In February of 2020, we saw the camera test footage of Pattinson trying on his Batsuit for the first time. However, during DC Fandome 2021, Pattinson let viewers know that he tried on a legendary Batsuit from an iconic actor before he wore his costume. During the DC FanDome panel, Reeves opened up about the screen tests and how Pattinson wore Kilmer’s Batsuit in Batman Forever.
Pattinson noted the pressure he felt while wearing the suit and how difficult it was to move inside it, stating that: “It was crazy, but I remember putting it on and thinking, ‘this is impossible, this is gonna be absolutely impossible. I remember [Reeves] saying like, because I guess just trying to move, I mean wearing a kind of 2-inch thick rubber suit, a latex suit and being incredibly nervous and full of adrenaline the whole time. I remember we did like two takes, and you were just saying ‘What can we do about the sweat?’, and I was like ‘Nothing! There’s nothing that could be done!’. I had to like be drained of liquid!”

The actor isn’t the only one wearing legacy Batsuits these days, as the first teaser for The Flash movie saw Ezra Miller’s Flash wearing a new suit made from Michael Keaton’s iconic Batsuit. It’s interesting that Pattinson wore that particular suit from Batman Forever, especially since it feels so far removed from the much darker The Batman.
The Batman sees Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse) donning the cape and cowl as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano (Escape at Dannemora) as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone, Alex Ferns (Chernobyl) as Commissioner Pete Savage, Con O’Neill (Ordinary Lies) as Chief Mackenzie Bock, Peter Sarsgaard (The Killing) as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson and Jayme Lawson (Farewell Amor) as Bella Real.
The Batman is set for release on March 4th, 2022.
