It looks like 20th Century Fox may have found its director for the upcoming Escape from New York remake, with The Tracking Board reporting that the studio is currently in talks with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez.
Rodriguez recently finished up production on Alita: Battle Angel for the studio, and should a deal be reached he would direct a script from Luther creator Neil Cross.
Although details on the new film are being kept under wraps, previous reports have suggested it would go down the same road as Fox’s new Planet of the Apes movies, and will actually be a prequel to John Carpenter’s 1981 cult classic. It will apparently follow Colonel Robert ‘Snake’ Plissken on a mission to apprehend Thomas Newton, the playboy heir to an agrochemical and biotech corporation, and the villain of the film.
Rodriguez is currently in post production on the James Cameron-produced Alita, which is set for release in July 2018.
