Robert Rodriguez is still hopeful about the future of Alita: Battle Angel

December 31, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Although director Robert Rodriguez and producer James Cameron’s Alita: Battle Angel wasn’t a major hit at the box office by grossing just over $400 million on a $170 million budget, it hasn’t stopped the film’s loyal and passionate fanbase petitioning for a sequel at Disney.

Now, in an interview with Forbes, Rodriquez has claimed that he is still hopeful for the future of Alita: Battle Angel as “anything is possible,” while also noting that the Disney+ streaming service could be helpful in getting the sequel developed.

“I think anything is possible. Disney bought Fox, and they have Disney+, so that is worth the conversation,” Rodriguez said. “I know other people would love to see another, and I would love to do another one. As far as where it would go or how it would be made, I think streaming has opened up many opportunities such as sequels.”

He added, “It’s already a pre-sold concept, it’s already got a built-in audience that wants to see it, and then it’s delivered to them in a way that’s the easiest for them to consume. So, it’s not a bad idea.”
