A few months ago, MMA fighter and champion Ronda Rousey throw her hat into the ring for the role of Captain Marvel in the upcoming film (even sharing fan art of her in the costume). While Marvel say they haven’t begun casting suggestions (though rumour sites claim they have), Rousey is still fighting her case.
“I’m really looking forward to doing my first starring role opposite Mark Wahlberg,” Rousey told Entertainment Tonight, referencing the movie Mile 22. “Hopefully by the time Captain Marvel comes around, I will have enough experience and skills in the field for them to really seriously consider me.”
Rousey has been very vocal about the role, but detractors online have cited her lack of acting experience as a negative, following her appearances in Furious 7 and Entourage. Rousey will, however, star as herself in her own biopic and she recently landed the leading role in the remake of Road House, another movie she had been targeting for some time.
“I was pursuing Road House for like two years,” she said. “I really don’t think that any other man could be [Patrick Swayze]. I think that it’s a wise angle to take to kind of do a little gender flip of the role.”
