Deadline is reporting that Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer has signed on to direct WWE Superstar John Cena (Trainwreck) and Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick) in a buddy cop comedy from writer Murray Miller (7 Days in Hell, Tour De Pharmacy).
Universal has snapped up the rights to the project, the plot of which is being kept under wraps. Fleischer will also produce with Murray and David Bernad of The District, who recently produced Brie Larson’s Unicorn Store and Mike White’s Brad’s Status.
Fleischer is currently preparing to begin principal photography on Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff movie Venom. John Cena is currently shooting the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee and has Daddy’s Home 2, Ferdinand and The Pact incoming, while Nanjiani will return to Silicon Valley for the HBO show’s fifth season in 2018.
