Following the surprise departure of Ruby Rose from The CW’s Batwoman series earlier this year, it was revealed yesterday that God Friended Me actor Javicia Leslie will be taking over the lead role in the second season.
Now, in a post on Instagram, the former Batwoman star has reacted to the latest development and congratulated Leslie on “taking over the bat cape” for the follow-up season.

While it remains unclear on how Rose’s Kate Kane will be written out of the DC series, showrunner Caroline Dries has confirmed that the character will not be killed off.
The CW and Warner Bros. Television has also revealed that Leslie will portray the newly-created character of Ryan Wilder – a character described as likeable, messy, a little goofy, and untamed. You can read the full character description here:
“Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman. She’s likable, messy, a little goofy, and untamed,” reads the document. “With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today, reformed and sober, Ryan lives in van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk from an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly disciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical All-American hero.”
The second season of Batwoman is expected to premiere early in 2021. Are you excited that Javicia Leslie will be playing the series’ titular superhero? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…
