Have we learned what Superman: Legacy will be about? There’s finally new information concerning the upcoming James Gunn movie.
After months of rumored plot information and James Gunn shutting down any idea that isn’t official, we’ve learned some new story details about the upcoming DC Studios launching point from a well-known scooper.
Grace Randolph took to Twitter to provide new details. It was long rumored that Superman would face off with The Authority in Superman: Legacy, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Now, Superman will deal with a conflict in the Middle East, which will cause a divide between the Man of Steel and the other DC heroes.
Superman will face off with other heroes, including the newly announced Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Green Lantern, but will also have to deal with Lex Luthor; the maniacal businessman is also looking to introduce himself as a solution for the rumored Middle East conflict.
If this sounds familiar, 2022’s Black Adam did something similar with its story, having Black Adam face off with the JSA and the evil Sabbac, who is looking to take over Kahndaq.
Check out Randolph’s tweet below…
Ah okay, here we go:#SupermanLegacy – conflict in Middle East, #Superman wants to stop it one way, other heroes disagree.#LexLuthor is also trying to negotiate peace his own way.#TheAuthority was a misdirect! Clever – it’s actually a #JSA type team, or the actual #JSA

Helmed by James Gunn, Superman: Legacy stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
The film will also introduce a new Lex Luthor, which Gunn is currently eyeing actors for as we speak.
The official synopsis states the film “tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman: Legacy is scheduled to open in theaters on July 11th, 2025.
