According to The Wrap, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman is set to face off against his arch-enemy Black Manta in the King of Atlantis’ 2018 solo movie.
Warner Bros. has declined to comment on the report, but it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see the character as the main villain given Aquaman’s rather thin roster of Rogues. That being said, it’s an El Mayimbe scoop, so…
Black Manta made his debut in Aquaman #35 in 1967, created by Bob Haney and Nick Cardy. He has had numerous origin stories, with his most recent explored in the New 52 where he seeks revenge on Arthur Curry for accidentally killing his father.
After debuting as Aquaman in this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and is currently shooting Justice League ahead of its release next year. The solo movie will follow on July 27th 2018, with James Wan directing.
