After casting Abby Arcane and Liz Tremayne last week, it seems that DC Universe may have found its Swamp Thing for the upcoming live-action series.
According to Splash Report, who first broke the news that Len Wiseman (Underworld) would direct the pilot, actor and stuntman Derek Mears – best known for his role as Jason in the Friday the 13th reboot – has been cast at the titular creature. Mears has previous small screen comic book experience, having appeared in episodes of The Flash and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
It was revealed last week that Swamp Thing will be employing a practical costume for the creature, so it certainly makes sense to bring in an actor of Mears’ stature for the role. Mears will not be portraying Swamp Thing’s alter-ego Alec Holland however, as that role remains uncast.

Swamp Thing follows what happens when CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be gone after all.
The pilot for Swamp Thing is being directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld), while the cast so far includes Crystal Reed (Gotham) as Abby Arcane and Maria Sten (Channel Zero) as Liz Tremayne.
