Rumour: Description of Star Wars: Episode VIII scene involving Laura Dern

March 19, 2016 by Gavin Logan

Last week we brought you some interesting photos from the set of Star Wars: Episode VIII from Dubrovnik – which you can check out here and here – and now we have some new information regarding a scene involving Laura Dern’s character and Poe Dameron (Oscar Issac).

Latino-Review have dropped the spoilery news, which apparently comes from their source close to Pinewood Studios, but it must be clearly stated that this is just a rumour for now and even they admit that it’s extremely vague.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD

You can check out the scene description below:

“There’s a stage setup like the interior of a starship. I don’t know what kind of starship, but it is large enough to have a crew and lots of droids manning it. The set has a bunch of practical effect robots and “hairy” alien creatures on it, and given that The First Order seems to be keeping up with the “humans only” hiring policy of The Empire, that suggests it is not a First Order ship to me. In one of the scenes shot in this stage, a rag-tag group of Resistance fighters have seen some battle. Cut and bruised, they and Poe Dameron are on this ship when Laura Dern, playing some sort of captain or officer. She tells the fighters that they are the last of the rebellion/resistance (I’m unclear on the exact phrasing of the line, so no capitalizing the Resistance) and that Princess Leia has been gravely injured and is receiving medical attention…

…Oscar Isaac and Laura Dern have an antagonistic exchange of words and Dern’s character is blunt with Poe, like she has some sort of authority over him…Things must be tense between these two characters because another scene we’ve gotten wind of has Poe leading a group of Resistance fighters as they take over what is presumably Dern’s ship. The scene included fighters under Poe removing technicians from their computer stations and Poe pointing a blaster at Dern’s character.”

So if any of this is actually true then it must mean that Laura Dern’s character is an authoritative figure within the Resistance, but someone who doesn’t necessarily share the same ideals as hero pilot Poe Dameron.

It’ll be interesting to see whether any of this pans out or what other (if any) details leak from the Pinewood Studios.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is set for release on December 15th 2017 and sees returning cast members Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix) and Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke) joined by new additions Benicio Del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy), Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) and Kelly Marie Tran (Ladies Like Us).
