Rumour: Disney+ greenlights Secret Invasion TV show from Marvel

January 26, 2020 by Gary Collinson

The introduction of the Skrulls in Captain Marvel led many fans to speculate that Marvel would be paving the way towards a big Secret Invasion event throughout Phase Four, and if a new rumour from Bleeding Cool is to be believed, we will be seeing an adaptation of the Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu comic book… only not on the big screen.

According to the site, which has had a number of legitimate scoops over the years, Disney+ has given the green light to two new Marvel Studios shows, one of which will be focussed on a “A-lister” character from the movies (“someone closer to Loki levels than, say, The Vision”).

The second meanwhile is said to be an adaptation of the Secret Invasion story arc and is intended to tie in with the Captain Marvel movies (as it happens Captain Marvel 2 was just officially announced this week).

If you’re unfamiliar with Secret Invasion, the comic book crossover series detailed an overt invasion of Earth by the Skrulls, whereby the alien shape-shifters had secretly assumed the identities of many of the world’s superheroes over a period of several years.

Given the scope of the story and the implications for pretty much the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Secret Invasion would certainly be an ambitious undertaking for a TV series, but one that would surely have Marvel fans flocking to Disney+ (or rather those who haven’t already thanks to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, WandaVision, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel).
