There has been many a droid in the long history of Star Wars but a new rumour suggests that the Han Solo movie will feature a female droid to accompany our heroes.
In what would be the first significant role for a female droid in the series’ history, Hollywood insider site, The Tracking Board, reports that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is to take on the part.
Of course Star Wars doesn’t always assign gender to its droids, but having one feature prominently in this picture will certainly change the dynamic.
So far the most high profile female droid to date is TC-14, the droid who greeted Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan at the start of the much beloved Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
Starring Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) in the leading role as the famous smuggler, the Han Solo film is directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord and also features Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson as Han Solo’s mentor, and Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke and Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge in unrevealed roles.
