Rumour: Ms. Marvel will reintroduce Inhumans into the MCU

February 15, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Despite constant assertions from former Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb that “it’s all connected”, it became increasingly clear over the past few years that Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios was paying little attention to the TV output in terms of the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, a recent behind-the-scenes reshuffle swung the axe on Marvel Television and granted Feige full control of the MCU through Marvel Studios and the newly-formed Marvel TV Studios, paving the way for a truly cohesive shared universe that weaves between screens big and small.

With that in mind, it’s surely only a matter of time before we see characters such as Daredevil, The Punisher and Ghost Rider rebooted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper – and according to a report from The Illuminerdi, the Ms. Marvel series may well serve to reintroduce the Inhumans into the MCU.

According to the site, casting calls have went out for two supporting characters for the Ms. Marvel series, both of whom will be familiar to readers of Kamala Khan’s comic book series: first up is Kareem, a close friend of the Khan family who also happens to be the Pakistan-based crimefighter Red Dragon, followed by Kamran, a character romantically involved with Kamala who is described in the casting breakdown as “a morally corrupt Inhuman”.

Although the Inhumans were originally intended to be introduced into the MCU with a Phase Three movie, the film was pulled from the Marvel Studios slate, with Marvel Television then teaming up with IMAX to produce a ten-part TV series which was poorly – sorry, extremely poorly – received by fans and critics alike. Inhuman characters also appeared in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC.

It’s been rumoured recently that Marvel Studios is mulling over the idea of rebooting Black Bolt and company with an Inhumans movie, and given that Kamala’s superhero origin is tied into the Inhumans mythology, it may well be that the seeds are sewn in the upcoming Disney+ show.
