A few days ago, Revenge of the Fans posted a report claiming that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment is working on a two-part animated adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween, and now the site is back with another rumour, this time concerning the fan favourite Elseworlds tale Superman: Red Son.
According to the site, not only is Warner Bros. moving ahead with an animated Red Son feature, but it has also assembled a voice cast that includes Diedrich Bader, Amy Acker, Jason Isaacs, Jim Meskimen, Phil Lamarr, Roger Craig Smith, Tara Strong, Vanessa Marshall and Travis Willingham.
While the report is unconfirmed by Warner Bros., it should be noted that Diedrich Bader did share the story to Twitter, stating that he is “excited to be a part of this”, before subsequently deleting the tweet. Read into that what you will.
If you’re unfamiliar with Superman: Red Son, the comic – written by Mark Millar and released in 2003 – reimagines the Man of Steel with the infant Kal-El crash landing in the Soviet Union as opposed to Smallville, where he is raised to be “the Champion of the common worker who fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, socialism, and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard talk of a possible Red Son film, with Kong: Skull Island helmer Jordan Vogt-Roberts revealing back in 2017 that he’d pitched a live-action movie to Warner Bros., and Batman: The Animated Series creator Bruce Timm expressing his interest in an animated adaptation following the release of last year’s Batman: Gotham By Gaslight. Whether or not Timm is involved in this version is unclear at present.
