Earlier this week it was announced that Creed star Tessa Thompson has joined the cast of Thor: Ragnarok, and while details on her role were being kept under wraps, Deadline described her character as “a kind of superhero who will appear in other Marvel films”.
Well, Latino-Review claims to have the inside scoop, suggesting that Thompson is portraying Brunnhilde, a.k.a. Valkyrie, a character who has long been rumoured to feature in the Phase Three threequel.
Created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema and making her first appearance in The Avengers #83 in 1970, Valkyrie is an Asgardian who leads the Valkyrior, a group of female warriors who determine which fallen warriors are brought to Valhalla. Initially under the control of The Enchantress, Valkyrie eventually went on to become a long time member of The Defenders.
It’s pretty clear by now that the only time Latino-Review has a genuine scoop these days is when they manage hit lucky with their guesswork, but this could be one of those cases, as it’s definitely plausible given Deadline’s description. Still, they “guaranteed” back in January that Bizarro was in Batman v Superman, and we all know how that “hot rumour” panned out.
Thor: Ragnarok is set for release on November 3rd 2017 and sees Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) directing a cast that so far includes Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif), along with Cate Blanchett (Carol) and Tessa Thompson (Creed).
