The Flash truly seems to be the most problematic film in the DC Extended Universe so far. For one, the film has already lost two directors in Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa, although Matthew Vaughn and Robert Zemeckis have both recently been rumored to take over (and Sam Raimi and Marc Webb said to have passed on the chance).
Secondly, and most importantly, the movie has seen a ton of rewrites. Typically, when a script receives so many rewrites, it’s to fix a recurring problem. How much of a problem? There is no way to know. However, according to a rumour on Reddit, the script is done and now tells the perfect “coming of age” story. Found on r/DCEULeaks, the anonymous poster “SELF.DCEULEAKS” had some good news regarding the script:
“The Scarlet Speedster (2019): The script has been completed and approved after MANY drafts and rewrites. The studio has finally approved a very good script, with some calling it “a perfect coming of age story regarding a young man trying to control his power”. There have not been that much more conversation regarding this film, although they have been very excited. Apparently the script was “heavily” influenced by a specific comic story and given an interesting nickname. The name might not be “The Scarlet Speedster” but that is a rumor ever since the script was turned in.”
The Scarlet Speedster? Interesting. This certainly wouldn’t be the first comic book movie to not name the film after the main character. The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, etc. As always however, while intriguing, take this rumor with a hefty grain of salt/skepticism.
Before his eventual solo movie, you can see The Flash in the upcoming Justice League movie this November.
