As we await more official casting news on The Batman, a rumour has surfaced via Geeks Worldwide which reveals an alleged shortlist of actresses who are being considered for the role of Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman.
According to the site, Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther), Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok), Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Dark Phoenix), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beauty and the Beast) and Logan Browning (Dear White People) are among the actresses in contention.
If true, this would back up an earlier report which claimed that Reeves is looking to cast a POC actress as Catwoman, with Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) said to have been the director’s first choice, if not for a scheduling conflict. However, we should also point out that Geeks Worldwide previously tipped Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw actress Vanessa Kirby for the role, so whether there’s any truth to this latest shortlist remains to be seen.
Robert Pattinson is set to take on the role of The Dark Knight in The Batman, with Westworld’s Jeffrey Wright in talks to portray Gotham Police Commissioner Jim Gordon. Jonah Hill is also said to have an offer to play either The Penguin or The Ridder, but is allegedly looking for more than double that of Pattinson’s salary to join the film.
