Yesterday came the rather surprising news that director Tim Miller has left 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool sequel, after an “amicable” split due to creative differences with star and producer Ryan Reynolds.
Although no further details were revealed alongside the announcement, The Wrap is claiming to have the inside scoop on the reasoning for Miller’s departure from Deadpool 2, with the site reporting that director and star “have had a contentious relationship for quite a while”, and have rarely spoke since the release of the first movie earlier this year.
Miller apparently wanted to go in more of a stylized direction for the sequel, whereas Reynolds wanted to continue the raunchy R-rated comedy style of the original. There was also allegedly friction over the casting of Cable, with Miller said to have wanted Kyle Chandler (Bloodline) for the role, with Reynolds against the casting. However, Reynolds is said to have secured casting approval and creative control within his deal for the sequel, which ultimately led to Miller’s departure.
