Rumoured three-month reshoots on X-Men: Dark Phoenix debunked

August 10, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in March it was announced that 20th Century Fox had pushed back the release dates for both The New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, with the latter set to undergo a round of reshoots in response to feedback from a test screening.

Due to scheduling issues with the cast, the reshoots have been set for September, and a report surfaced this week from Montreal-based LaPresse claiming that director Simon Kinberg and the cast would be assembling next month for three whole months of additional photography.

Given that principal photography only lasted for three and a half months, this naturally raised a few eyebrows and seemed to suggest that Fox could be reshooting virtually the entire movie. However, we now have word from Collider that the original report is inaccurate, and the additional photography is only scheduled to last around two-and-a-half weeks in total.

According to Collider’s report, the additional photography is not intended as a “major overhaul” of the movie and is instead fairly standard, involving “some additional action in the film’s third act, a couple of new scenes, and adding some shots for existing scenes.”
