It’s been almost 18 months since we’ve heard anything about a potential reboot to the 80s classic Gremlins, but with the film celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Film Divider is reporting that screenwriters Morgan Jurgenson (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) and Alex Ankeles (Subdivision) have impressed Warner Bros. with a new pitch, which is said to “include story elements from the original 1984 movie, marking it out as a remake rather than a sequel”.
Jurgenson and Ankeles have apparently received the okay from Christopher Columbus (write of the original) and his company 1492 Entertainment with their pitch and now just need the go ahead from Steven Spielberg before starting work on a screenplay. It’s also said that the pair are looking to secure the involvement of Joe Dante, who directed the first film, as well as the 1990 sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
