Before Shane Black (Iron Man 3) heads back to the jungle (figuratively speaking) to tackle the new Predator movie, he will be directing his 1970s inspired comedy-noir The Nice Guys. And it’s been confirmed this morning by The Hollywood Reporter that Ryan Gosling (Only God Forgives) and Russell Crowe (Noah) have joined to lead the cast.
The Nice Guys is set in Los Angeles in the 1970s and sees a fighter and a private detective team up to attempt to solve a murder, which would set it in a similar tone to Black’s own Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang. A Christmas setting is not confirmed.
Warner Bros. have picked up the picture and will see the funding through to completion. Joel Silver will produce.
Crowe’s directorial debut The Water Diviner is set for release soon and the Ryan Gosling directed Lost River has just premiered as Canne.
As it stands, Shane Black will be working on The Nice Guys before he directs the Predator reboot/sequel.
