Blade Runner 2049 star Ryan Gosling has said that the film’s director Denis Villeneuve is loyal to the original movie.
Released way back in 1982, Blade Runner told the tale of a man whose job it was to hunt down androids named replicants in order to ‘retire’ them. The movie has since become a sci-fi classic and fans are looking forward to the long awaited sequel which premiers this October.
Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, had an incredibly distinctive style and tone, and so many fingers are being crossed in hope that Villeneuve will manage to capture that same vibe.
Well, according to Gosling, fans shouldn’t have to worry at all, saying to The Hollywood Reporter that Villeneuve was “so loyal to the original, but at the same time wasn’t intimidated by it.”
Gosling also commented on the chance that some questions regarding the original movie would at last be answered in this sequel.
“It’s iconic for a reason. It’s a very deep and powerful and haunting film. It leaves you with more questions than answers and, as a kid, I wasn’t used to that. I was used to things being sewn up for me. It was exciting as a fan to know that some of those questions might get answered, and to go back into that universe and explore that world and see how things evolved.”
The release of Blade Runner 2049 is certainly going to be noted down in every sci-fi fan’s diary, hoping that Villeneuve has managed to capture some of the magic that made Scott’s original movie so memorable.
